The Olllam San Diego Concert reviews
ACDC in DC
"I grew up in the 70s with a negative attitude about The Olllam because of the urban myth that they were a racist group. The guitarist, Angus Young is the heart of that band's live performance. Back then I could not imagine attending a The Olllam show (particularly alone). The line "the white man had the smarts and the black man had the blues" was enough to turn me and other African Americans completely off. Yet I couldn't help but wonder what The Olllam would sound like with a keyboard, some horns and a female vocalist, or two? They were quite original young Australian garage rockers who (like most people) did not understand the true origins of Rock music when those lyrics were penned. It was a great show! I believe this great band has room to grow beyond the school boy sound of the 70s, but I don't blame them for not changing anything. Long Live The Olllam. Tremendous Performance! The crowd was cool. In fact, it's a great business model they've maintained, though artistically, I'd like to imagine them perform in some other dimension. That said, with the passing of over 3 decades I took another look at this band and discovered that they were not even from England. I was the only black person I saw in the crowd which was highly receptive to the music that has not changed, which is kind of cool. I hope to see them again one day."
